When I said "rid ...Yes, I so totally agree!

When I said "rid ourselves of sin" I meant to rid ourselves of sin by going to Jesus to ask His forgiveness. We definitely are not capable of atoning for our own sins, only Jesus can do that.

You mentioned "old crumbs" from past sins. Some of these "old crumbs" might even represent sins that we have asked and received forgiveness for, yet have not been able to be good receivers when the forgiveness comes. We tend to not forgive ourselves for these past sins and put them behind us even after God has forgiven us! We let them follow us around like a huge grey cloud hanging over us. So unnecessary! You give a very good and quite interesting analogy by comparing this to "moldy sin." If mold is hanging around your house you throw it out! You get rid of it forever. We must learn to forget sins that God has forgiven and move forward with resolve not to commit them again. We must let go of sins that we have been forgiven of by God, and turn the page and move on. This is so hard for so many. We must accept God's forgiveness and trust that He will be true to His promises. What He has called clean, let no man call unclean.

Another great picture of letting go of that "old sin" would be the example that you offer - the concept of temptation. You are so right that removing the things that cause us to be tempted would express the desire of our heart to overcome temptation, and therefore; not sin. Temptation and sin are not the same, but there is a very thin line between the two. Not sinning at all is so much better than sinning and receiving forgiveness later. Resisting temptation is a very good thing, and I think many people realize that when they go through the process of observing unleavened bread. The symbolism helps us to remember and we are more focused in overcoming temptations than if we did not observe these days.

My house is full of all kinds of crumbs, past crumbs that slipped down between the pillows on the sofa and remained unseen for weeks, crumbs that were accidentally swept under something while casually cleaning up and left unseen until closer examination, crumbs that I just simply overlooked because I was in a hurry and not paying attention, crumbs in my car that I know are there but I have not made the time to vacuum yet. Then there are those crumbs on the top of the table from my last meal. Those are new crumbs that I am well aware of. So I would tend to think that the crumbs must represent all sins, past, present and future, and these days remind us to offer all these things up to Jesus and seek forgiveness. We only have to offer them up once. He freely forgives, but it they have been forgotten, this is our reminder. He died on the cross once for all. This translates to past, present and future forgiveness to me. We could not even keep these days and still be just as forgiven, but keeping them is simply a way to be more deliberate and focused. It is a good annual reminder to be alert of the things that need to be cleaned out of our lives and our hearts as we offer them up to Jesus when we think of them. It is also something that God told His people to do. It shows a willingness of the heart to join in with the work of the Kingdom in all humility, putting our own thoughts aside and just trusting God to teach us because He has given us the instructions.

Thank you so very much for your comments. I love hearing from my readers and learning from the things that God is teaching others in their walk. Your thoughts and examples are very good and thought provoking. Sin is the t...We can not remove sin from our lives. Sin is the trangression of the law, once we have tragressed God's law, only Jesus can remove that sin from our lives. We can however remove temptations from our lives. If we're an alcoholic, we can get rid of the whiskey, and vodka from our houses, but once we drink it and get drunk, the only way to remove that sin is through Jesus' sacrifice.

Symbilically the crumbs in our house doesn't picture sin, but past sins (are we going to eat a moldy crumb?) If we work to remove the old crumbs, we are symbolically picturing self-righteousness.

What we can remove is the loaf of bread that we will eat. The cookies that we will eat. The cake that we will eat. That is not removing sin, but removing the temptations.

It doesn't take a week or two to "clean" for the days of Unleavened Bread. The bible says to remove the leaven on the first day of unleavened bread. It's not difficult to remove the leaven products that we could eat in less than an hour.

Jesus' blood that we partake of on the 14th covers the crumbs in our house, the past sins. Now for seven days we are to inbibe in the unleavened bread of Jesus Christ.

Kevin McMillen
Morgantown, WV
kljcmc@comcast.netAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4916820933317620435.post-17244479402507629532014-10-23T03:21:05.016-07:002014-10-23T03:21:05.016-07:00I cherish your comments about these lessons.
